Edo assembly officially announces Okaka as Minority leader

Mr Okaka (APC, Owan East) has been appointed as the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, while Osamwonyi Atu (APC, Orhionmwo) assumes the position of Minority Whip.

This announcement was made during the Monday plenary, following the receipt of nomination letters from the PDP, APC, and LP parties for the assembly’s Principal Officers Council (POC).

Speaker Blessing Agbebaku urged the newly constituted POC and other members of the house to prioritize the common good and the interests of their constituencies and the state as a whole.

During the same plenary, the House disclosed the composition of its various standing committees.

The selection committee would be chaired by the Speaker, while the tenders board would be headed by Deputy Speaker Marie Edekor, among other committee assignments.

In a separate development, the House passed a resolution urging relevant government agencies to promptly repair the sections of the Auchi-Ayogwiri-Agenebode road that have been severely affected by erosion.

This resolution was prompted by a motion presented by Kingsley Ugabi, an APC member representing Etsako East, who expressed concern about the difficulties faced by motorists due to the deteriorated condition of the road.

Other lawmakers echoed these concerns and joined the call for urgent repairs by the appropriate government agencies.
