According to Jaden Smith, a prominent figure in Hollywood, he has openly discussed how his mother, the esteemed actress Jada Pinkett Smith, introduced him and the entire Smith family to psychedelic substances.
Psychedelics, commonly referred to as hallucinogens, are chemical compounds that possess the ability to alter one’s perception, emotions, and cognitive functions.
The Alcohol and Drugs Foundation of the United States defines psychedelics as substances that bring about changes in a person’s thoughts, time perception, and emotions by engaging all of their senses.
These drugs can ”cause a person to hallucinate — seeing or hearing things that do not exist or are distorted,” the Alcohol and Drugs Foundation said.
Speaking at the Psychedelic Science conference in Denver, Colorado, last week, the 24-year-old Jaden Smith said, “I think it was my mom that was the first one to make that step for the family.”
He continued saying; “It was just her for a long time and then eventually it just trickled and evolved, and everybody found it in their ways.”
Jaden also spoke on his tight relationship with siblings; sister Willow, 22, and half-brother Trey, 30, crediting psychedelics for aiding with these connections.
“Siblings can argue so much and fight so much, and lord knows me and my siblings have done so much of that in the past,” he said. “But the level of love and empathy that I can feel for them inside of the [psychedelic] experiences and outside of the experiences has been profound and beautiful.”
In a November episode of the renowned talk show Red Table Talk, Jada Pinkett Smith, who is 51 years old, openly conversed about her encounter with psychedelics. During the episode, she co-hosted alongside her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and her daughter, Willow.
During the discussion, Jada bravely shared her battle with depression, shedding light on how psychedelics have played a significant role in her healing process. She expressed the positive impact these substances have had on her journey toward emotional well-being.
“I struggled with depression for so long. And the thing about the plant medicine is it helps you feel better but also solves the problems of how you got there in the first place,” she said.
“You have to really wanna do it, this is not for play,” she said. “You have to be willing to confront some hard stuff. It is very healing and it has changed my life.”
