As part of it’s efforts to ensure Nigeria punch above it’s weight at this Women World Cup, Nigeria Football Federatio (NFF) has endorsed the proposed training tour of Australia for Super Falcons.
Although the team is expected to open its camping exercise at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, on June 29, the tour of Australia seems to be the big preparation that will help knock the players into shape.
There are fears that most of the players are match rusty due to European football break with most of the players back in Nigeria with their families. That explains why the girls will be spending 15-days close camping in Australia.
NFF Director of Media and Communications Ademola Olajire, said Coach Randy Waldrum’s tutored side will enjoy the best preparations for 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
“The FIFA Women’s World Cup will kick off next month and the Nigerian team will start their final preparation on June 29. There will be a final send-forth dinner for them on July 1 before they travel on July 2.
“They will also have a 15-day final camping programme in Australia before the tournament starts,” he said.
The Super Falcons are grouped alongside co-hosts, Australia, Olympic champions, Canada and debutants, Republic of Ireland, in Group A at the World Cup.
