Makinde, Oyo APC clash over ministerial slot

Crisis is brewing between Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress over the ministerial slot from the state.

President Tinubu is expected to name at least one person from each state in his cabinet but the development is causing friction between Makinde who is a Governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party but by virtue of his contribution to the electoral victory of Tinubu in Oyo state, the Governor is pushing to nominate the minister from the state.

However, members of APC in Oyo has kicked against the development, accusing the Governor of being ungrateful after they worked for his emergence at the last governorship poll in the state.

Reacting, the APC’s spokesperson in the state, Mr Olawale Sadare, said: “President Bola Tinubu is a leader in the true sense of the word.

“We are very optimistic he would go for core party faithful as his choice for key appointments including the ministerial.”

Meanwhile, Iwitnesslive learnt that President Tinubu is most likely going to work with Makinde as there are strong indications that the President is keen on rewarding him for being a member of the G-5 Giver ors who worked for his victory.

“The President will not neglect party members who worked for his victory in Oyo and as you can see he has started rewarding them; a member of APC and former Commissioner under late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Zacchaeus Adedeji has been appointed as Special Adviser, Revenue and I am sure more are still coming.

“But the President deeply recognises the role Makinde played in the last election and being a Governor, Mr President also understands how valuable working with him could be for his administration and all things being equal, a minister would come from the Givernor’s camp,” a source in APC said.
