Lawsuit filed: nine women made accusations of sexual assault against Bill Cosby

Nine women have recently come forward in a lawsuit filed in Nevada, taking advantage of the state’s newly abolished statute of limitations on civil sexual abuse cases. In their accusations against Bill Cosby, the renowned American comedian, they claim to have been sexually assaulted by him several decades ago.

The lawsuit alleges that the renowned American comedian utilized his “enormous power, fame, and prestige” to isolate and sexually assault these women. The reported incidents took place between 1979 and 1992, spanning various locations including homes, hotels, and dressing rooms in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, and Reno.

The opportunity for legal action arose after Nevada repealed the civil statute of limitations for adult sexual abuse cases on May 31, allowing these women to file their lawsuit. Previously, the state had imposed a two-year time limit for individuals over the age of 18 to bring forth their cases in court.

Cosby, 85, was an influential figure in late-20th century American popular culture, recognized as “America’s Dad” for his role on “The Cosby Show” from 1984 to 1992. Over the years, he has faced numerous accusations of predatory behavior by dozens of women, stretching back decades.

While Cosby has not been criminally convicted despite multiple lawsuits, he was found liable in a civil case last year. In 2018, he was incarcerated in a criminal case but was released in 2021 when his conviction was overturned on a technicality.

Among the women mentioned in the Nevada lawsuit is Lise-Lotte Lublin, who previously accused Cosby of drugging her in a Las Vegas hotel room in 1989. Lublin alleges that Cosby provided her with two drinks that made her feel dizzy and later asked her to sit between his legs while stroking her hair, leading to her blackout.

The other accusers named in the lawsuit include Janice Dickinson, Janice Baker Kinney, Lili Bernard, Heidi Thomas, Linda Kirkpatrick, Rebecca Cooper, Pam Joy Abeyta, and Angela Leslie.

In response to the lawsuit, Cosby’s spokesperson, Andrew Wyatt, has claimed that the women suing Cosby are driven by their “addiction to massive amounts of media attention and greed.”
