More facts emerged on Wednesday night why erstwhile Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), AbdulRasheed Bawa was chopped by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, despite pleas from different quaters to retain Buhari appointees.
Director, Information, office of the SGF, Willie Bassey revealed that the need to enable security agents conduct proper investigation into Bawa’s conduct while in office necessitated his suspension.
Fact finding revealed that Bawa was Involved in several witch-hunting of some highly placed politician with the aim cashing in on them.
Recall former governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, had accused Bawa of demanding $ 2 million as a bribe from him.
Bawa bluntly denied the allegation, demanding for evidence to back up his accusation.
Again, Bawa has been accused of abusing his office which he should have honored and kept sacred.
However, Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.
