Continued detention of Kanu, aberration — Igbo youth movement

Evangelist Eliot Uko, the Founder of the Igbo Youth Movement (IYM) and Secretary of the Eastern Consultative Assembly (ECA) has strongly criticized the prolonged detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Uko considers Kanu’s detention without any charges an abnormality and condemns it unequivocally.

In a conversation, Uko expressed his concerns about the detrimental impact of Kanu’s continued incarceration on the stability of the South East Zone. He emphasized the urgent need for the Federal Government to release Kanu, emphasizing that his freedom is essential for restoring peace and security in the region.

Uko, who is also the Deputy Secretary of Igbo Leaders of Thought (ILT), appealed to the Federal Government to consider the growing clamor for Kanu’s release in compliance with court judgments and the United Nations Opinion.

“The continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu at the DSS facility may not be profiting the region. The fact that there are no charges against him, suggests that his continued detention at the DSS may actually be an aberration.

“The need to restore normalcy to the land has become pertinent.

“I humbly join clergymen, statesmen, traditional rulers, elders, and political leaders who in recent times have called for his early release.

“Since governors and cultural organizations are demanding his release in line with the court order that he should be allowed to go home, it is necessary that he be released since his continuous detention does not seem in any way to assist the pursuit of resolution and closure.

“Peace will be better achieved in an atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual political solutions than in any other atmosphere.
