FIFA, NFF at alert as 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit San Juan Province,

The Federation of Internatinal Football (FIFA) and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) hierarchies are monitoring events after 4.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded in San Juan Province, venue of U-20 second round clash between host Argentina and Nigeria Flying Eagles.

Argentine newspaper Cronista, confirmed the tremor 4.8 degrees, which was also felt in Mendoza, San Luis, Córdoba and La Rioja .

The National Institute for Seismic Prevention reported that the tremor occurred at 1202 hours, and it was felt 156 kilometers east of the city of San Juan, 181 kilometers north of the city of San Luis and just over 50 kilometers from Chepes, La Rioja.

Local authorities are alert and monitoring the situation to rule out possible aftershocks and guarantee the safety of the population.

The Flying Eagles will face Argentina at the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario, San Juan on Wednesday, with the game scheduled to start at 2200 hours.  

Nigeria last met Argentina in the U-20 category in 2005 tournament in Netherland, losing by 2-1.
