Japa: How UK Government plans to defend its decision with Tiamiyu video

By David Kabiyesi

UK-based content creator, Emdee Tiamiyu may have come under series of criticism for backing Home Office decision to ban Nigerian and students from other countries from bringing their family to UK except for postgraduate research routes.

The feelings among immigration experts is that Tiamiyu’s interview with BBC has now become a tool in the hands of UK government to defend its decision.

Recall that the YouTuber, in an interview with BBC argued most Nigerians students are not in UK to pick up certificate, rather, they are leaving the Nigeria in droves to seek greener pastures for their families.

Consequently, the UK government on Tuesday slammed restrictions on student visa routes to cut net migration.

While the development generated mixed reactions from Nigerians and other immigrant students in the UK, immigration expert known as @lollypeazle on Twitter said: The UK didn’t use Emdee Tiamiyu’s video to formulate that policy but will use it to defend it. They will always mention how Nigerians even share their belief by citing the video.” he said.
