Seun Kuti may have come under barrage of criticism after he was caught on video slapping a police officer. The so-called officer enjoyed public pity while the afrobeat star was reprimanded in police custody until he was released on bail on Wednesday evening.
The Police have once again proved why they are not regarded as friends as widely proclaimed after three officers beat an Okada driver to a pulp and was left all alone in his pool of blood as they made away with his motorcycle.
In a short video that is already going viral on internet, a young Okada driver was battling to hold on to his motorcycles, which seems to be his only source of income, but he was repeatedly hit with a plastic cane which eventually broke his skull.
Unruffled by constant threats of being shot at, the young man was not going down without a fight as he held on tightly to the motorcycle, but he was overpowered by the three policemen who quickly hailed down a keke Napep and escaped from the scene.
Onlookers who cheered the Okada driver on during the fracas then urged him to go after the policemen. He heeded the voice of multitudes and bolted after the Napep but quickly stopped in his tracks when it dawned on him that it would amount to a futile effort running after the three policemen. Besides, the loss of blood had began its toll on him.
Such is the brutality of Nigerian Police, and just like thousands of similar cases in the past, it will be swept under the carpet. What a shame!
