He reminded me of Drogba- Carragher heaps praise on Awoniyi

By David Kabiyesi

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher was full of praise for Nottingham Forest’s two-goal hero, Taiwo Awoniyi, comparing him to Didier Drogba for his first-half performance against Southampton on Monday Night.

The TV pundits described Awoniyi’s turn in the box as excellent after the 25-year-old benefited from good work by Brennan Johnson to put Forest in the lead in the 18th minute.

It got better for the Reds and Awoniyi just three minutes later when he turned well to put the ball beyond Alex McCarthy in the Southampton goal.

” He reminded me of Drogba as soon as I saw the goal,” he said on Monday Night Football.

The 25-years old striker opened scoring for Forest in the 18th minute while his second goal came in the 21st minute.

Having featured in seven games since his return from injury, the forward finally found the back of the net to end his four-month goal drought and he did it in style to keep Forest’s hopes of staying in the topflight league alive.

He was taken off in the 81st minute for Sam Surridge.
