According to Kerala police, a 26-year-old Nigerian guy was detained on May 6 in Delhi for allegedly defrauding a woman of over N1.4 million after becoming friends with her on Facebook.
The accused allegedly became friends with the woman in early 2021 under a false name, and on August 15 of that same year, he allegedly told her that a gift worth 30 crore had been sent to her as their Independence Day gift.
Later, the woman received a call posing as a diplomatic official from Mumbai Customs, asking her to transfer $22,000 as customs duty into a bank account.
The woman reportedly approached the police in July 2022 after receiving threats to deposit more money in the coming days.with a complaint.
The cyber cell traced the accused to Delhi and arrested him.
