Ndume steps down for Akpabio as 61 Senators support ex-Akwa Ibom Gov

One of the front runners for the post of the Senate President of the 10th Assembly Senator Ali Ndume has stepped down for Senator Godswill Akpabio as the National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the President-elect Bola Tinubu scale up the consultation for consensus agreement.

About nine Senators are jostling for the top seat but the APC NWC and Tinubu are trying to prevail on the aspirants to accept the consensus agreement.

The choice of Akpabio has received acceptance from many stakeholders and the President-elect is leading the line to ensure the former Governor of Akwa Ibom emerges as the next Senate President.

Tinubu was said to have met with Ndume and prevailed on him not only to step down for Akpabio but work for his emergence.

Meanwhile, Akpabio has reportedly gotten the endorsement of at least 61 Senators across all political parties and barring unforeseen circumstances, he would be the next leader of the upper chamber.

“It is true that he has gotten at least 61 signatures of their colleagues who have pledged their support for his emergence as the next Senate President. He is pursuing a joint ticket with Senator Barau Jibrin who is running as his Deputy and if things go to plan, they will both emerge as winner,” a source said.
