2023 Election

You don’t win election by bullying people on social media, Prof Sagay slams Obidients

The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay, SAN, has hit out at the supporters of the Labour Party known as Obidients for cyberbullying opponents, saying elections are not won based on the intimidation of people.

The university lecturer also backed Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, who in a recent interview berated the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed, for kicking against the swearing-in of President-elect, Bola Tinubu

However, in an interview with Channels TV, Sagay said he stands with Professor Wole Soyinka. He added that people cannot get into power by use of vehemence or outburst of anger.

‘’I have watched the interview of Professor Soyinka and his views which I accept totally in that you cannot use vehemence and outburst of anger to control how this country is to be ruled. You cannot say it must be me and nobody else. He was right and I certain accept all his views. I have seen all the insults being poured on him on social media and this is the point we are making. You wouldn’t win an election by insults on social media. You just put people off. The next time around it will be concluded that you are not fit to rule or be in a ruling party because that is how you are going to terrorise the country. What is being done by some members of the Labour party is contrary to the interest of the Labour party in the future”

Sagay also stated that the 2023 election is the best Nigeria has ever conducted. He stated that the fact that APC lost in Lagos state, is an indication that the polls were most credible. He also stated that there are is evidence of large manipulations of the 2023 elections.

‘’Can you imagine APC losing in Lagos? Immediately that should tell you the BVAS was working and that the election was a straightforward and credible election for that to happen. It is unheard of .”
