A former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi, opened a can of worms when he claimed that the person that nominated the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission Mahmood Yakubu for reappointment belonged to the camp of the President-elect Bola Tinubu.
The INEC Chairman has come under criticism since the last presidential election as opposition parties including the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party accused the commission of aiding Tinubu to victory.
Amaechi is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress and even contested against Tinubu in the party primaries last year’s June but has since gone off the radar.
The former Governor of Rivers State who is supporting the APC candidate in the governorship election in the state also condemned the alleged widespread rigging in the state.
Amaechi also alleged that the INEC chairman allowed the alleged rigging in Rivers to thrive because he worked under Governor Nyesom Wike as executive secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund when the incumbent Rivers Governor was a minister of education under President Goodluck Jonathan.
