JUST IN: Highway bomb blasts kill three soldiers, injures 11 ahead of Saturday’s elections

By David Kabiyesi

The Nigerian Army suffered a major loss on Friday when a highway bomb exploded and killed three soldiers and 11 civilians in Banki, Borno State, iwitnesslive.com gathered.

The military patrol vehicle hit the roadside bomb 10 km from Banki, northeast Nigeria near the border with Cameroon; an area that is notorious for jihadist attacks.

Also, a truck carrying passengers from Maiduguri to Banki ahead of the Governor and National Assembly election on Saturday was caught in the crossfire with seven passengers sustaining injuries.

Anti-jihadist militia Usman Hamza blamed the attack on the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) group which is known for planting roadside bombs around the area.

“Three soldiers died in the explosion and four others were badly injured while seven civilians were also injured,” anti-jihadist militia Usman Hamza said.
