Jurgen Klopp says he has no intention of playing down the significance of Liverpool’s visit from Manchester United this weekend, saying something would be “really wrong” if the fixture was not viewed as a huge one.
The Reds entertain arguably their most fierce rival at Anfield on Sunday afternoon as they look to make successive home victories this week following on from Wednesday night’s 2-0 triumph over Wolves.
With 10 points taken from the last 12, Klopp’s team remain firmly in the hunt for the top four and sit sixth in the table, a half-dozen points behind Tottenham in fourth with a game in hand on the north Londone
Liverpool versus United is generally accepted as the most-watched football fixture in world football and all eyes will again be on Anfield as the two most successful teams in English football history lock horns once more.
Klopp says there is little point trying to argue that the fixture is not a special one and claimed it would be “really sad” if it meant little to supporters of either club or the wider football fraternity.
“We can cut it into pieces,” Klopp said. “Three points, that is pretty much the only normal stuff like in other games, three points, but the moment when Liverpool versus Manchester United is not a special game any more then something went really wrong.
