Flying Eagles will this evening attempt to put Hippos of Uganda to the sword as Nigeria aim to pick one of the four slots and book their place in Indonesia.
The U-20 World Cup is slated for Indonesia from May 20 to June 11, and only a win against the tactically sound Ugandans will guarantee the coach Ladan Bosso-tutored side a place on the global stage.
Speaking ahead of the match, coach Ladan Bosso expressed confidence in the ability of his boys to get the job done in 90 minutes as Nigeria go into the match as Group A runners-up while Uganda emerged as Group B winners.
“We are aware that Nigerians are looking up to us to deliver. While our mission remains to bag the World Cup ticket, we are also eyeing the trophy, which is still several matches away.
“For the moment, we have Uganda in our view and we are working hard to see that we control proceedings on Thursday,” he said.
On his part, Uganda’s manager Jackson Mayanja believes his team’s hard work and fairy-tale runs in the competition would be more than enough to scale Flying Eagles’ hurdles.
“My objective is to take this team to the World Cup and if I can achieve that then we can see what happens next but my objective in this tournament is to qualify Uganda for the World Cup.”
It remains to be seen if coach Ladan Bosso would dig deeply into his technical books of tricks and come up with a formation that will see his boys scale this tough hurdle against a side that has been touted as the most tactical side in the ongoing U-20 AFCON in Egypt.
