President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant constructed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission Limited (NNPCL) to provide lasting solution to incessant attack on power line by the Boko Haram insurgents .
Inaugurating the Emergency Power Plant in Maiduguri on Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari assured Nigerians of his administrations resolve to deliver more projects in the power sector.
Buhari said the Maiduguri Emergency power Plant is part of 4,000 megawatts for improved power supply., stressing over the last few years Boko Haram has destroyed power line linking Maiduguri to Damaturu, Maiduguri Damboa throwing Maiduguri and his environs into darkness and that with the commissioning of power plant,It will provide permanent solution to attack on the power line.
“Today, I have the honour to commission the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant as part of our commitment to deliver more projects. i therefore, direct the Federal ministry of power and other relevant agencies, such as Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Nigerian Electrify Regulator Agency abd etc to collaborate with NNPCL to ensure Nigerians have access to to electricity,” the President said.
Also the the Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPCL, Mal Mele Kyari said the Commission is determined to make liquefied gas as the major sources of power in Nigeria come 2030.
He said the 30 megawatts Maiduguri Emergency power plant is part of the 50 megawatt designed to provide solution to the incessant attack on the power line by Boko Haram insurgents.
While commending Governor Zulum for keeping to his campaign promises, President Buhari said ” I can’t remember the numbers projects I have Commissioned. Governor Zulum deserved a second term.”.
At the Shehu of Borno Palace, President Mhammadu Buhari said ” I am here mainly to sympathise and commensurate with the people of Borno over the unfortunate fire incident that gutted Maiduguri Monday Market and also inaugurate some projects of Governor Babagana Zulum. Whenever I came here your Governor always hijacked me to see and commission his projects.”
He said from here I am going to the Monday Market to sympathise with the traders and see the situation of the Market.
Also speaking, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state said Mr President is in Borno to sympathise and commensurate over the Monday market that destroyed millions Naira.
He said the Northeastern part of Nigeria and Borno state in particular was one of the worst in terms of security. He said today Borno state is one of the secured state in Nigeria.
