At least 13 persons have lost their lives since the breakout of protest over the new naira notes policy and the cessation of old notes as legal tender.
Violence erupted across the country as a result of the pronouncements by President Muhammadu Buhari and the Central Bank of Nigeria that the old N500 and N1000 notes had ceased to be legal tender.
Pockets of protests were witnessed in 12 states including Edo, Delta, Oyo, Ondo, Benue, Kwara, Ogun, Lagos and Akwa-Ibom.
Others are Osun, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory.
Three persons were killed during a protest that broke out in the Dogo community in Apata, Ido Local Government Area of the Oyo state on February 5 while another protest in Abeokuta, Ogun State two days later claimed one life.
A customer at a bank in Agbor, Delta State, had slumped and died while in the queue on February 3. This is as three people were murdered in Benin City, Edo State during a protest by the youth over naira redesigning on February 16.
On February 18, a breakdown of law and order during a protest in the Mowe area of Ogun State led to the death of two persons.
An eruption of violence in the Udu road area of Delta State on February 15 also claimed two lives that was after a heavily pregnant woman in Kasuwan Magani, Kajuru LGA, in Kaduna, lost her life to the scarcity of the new naira notes after her husband could not access cash for her treatment on February 2.
