The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken action against fifty outlets in Kaduna State, sealing them for selling edible oil in unhygienic conditions. This enforcement activity was conducted as part of a sensitization workshop aimed at educating dealers about registration procedures and food management practices.
This information was revealed in a statement posted on the agency’s official handle on Saturday. Mrs. Josephine Dayilim, the Director of the North-West Zonal Office, clarified that NAFDAC’s intervention aimed to mitigate potential health hazards associated with contaminated edible oil.
Mrs. Dayilim emphasized the risks posed by consuming oil processed in unsanitary environments, highlighting the dangers of food poisoning, gastroenteritis, and even cancer due to inadequate processing methods and the use of corrosive equipment.
The director stressed the importance of using food-grade materials and maintaining hygienic production environments to safeguard consumer health and well-being.
In addition to its efforts in Kaduna, NAFDAC has also undertaken actions to sanitize unwholesome pharmaceutical practices in Kano. The agency recently conducted raids in the Sabon Gari open market, resulting in the closure of not less than 1,321 patent medicine stores.
