Eid-El-Fitr: Police uncover plan to cause mayhem in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has announced the discovery of unidentified individuals exploiting certain Islamic sects to incite chaos during the Eid-el-Fitr festival.

During a gathering with Islamic clerics and delegates from the five emirate councils on Monday, Police Commissioner Muhammad Gumel conveyed this information.

Gumel also reassured attendees that the police force had promptly intervened against criminals disguising themselves among law-abiding citizens to instigate violence before, during, and after the Eid-el-Fitr festivities.

He emphasized Kano’s unique status as the only state where no citizens were held captive by kidnappers or bandits, crediting this achievement to the vigilance of security agencies.

“We have some names that hide under the guise of the Qadiriyya Islamic sect trying to cause disharmony.

“So, we have spoken with the leader of the sect, Sheikh Qaribullah Nasiru Kabara, and he has dissociated himself from them and even given the go-ahead to arrest anyone trying to disrupt peace,” he said.

The police commissioner also hinted that the command’s intelligence units had uncovered another set of politicians who were not either satisfied with the ways things were going or didn’t get appointments and were hell bent on creating uncertainty.

“I have directed police officers to arrest anybody they find with weapons or trying to create uncertainty among the people,” he added

Representing, the Emir of Bichi, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Bashir Albasu, lauded the police commissioner for upholding peace in Kano.

He acknowledged Kano’s diverse population and constant influx of traders, and the city’s susceptibility to crime, but affirmed the commitment of the five emirate councils to support security efforts for sustained peace.
