The Nigerian Army, specifically the 35 Artillery Brigade stationed at Alamala in Abeokuta, has transferred 441 pawpaw-sized packages suspected to contain cannabis sativa, weighing a total of 223 kilograms, to the Ogun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
This development was disclosed by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 35 Artillery Brigade, Lieutenant Mohammed Goni, in a statement released in Abeokuta.
According to Goni, troops from the brigade intercepted a Mazda bus with license plate number NRK 622 SB transporting the suspected substance on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Mologbede village in Odeda Local Government Area of the state.
He added that Brigadier General Mohammed Aminu, the Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, praised the efforts of the troops and urged them to remain vigilant in their respective areas of operation.
During the handover of the seized substance, Major Gadzama Abdullahi, representing the brigade commander, reiterated the brigade’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to combat crimes and social vices in the state.
“The Commandant NDLEA Ogun State Command, Commander of Narcotics Jane Ibiba Odili, stated in her remarks that she was highly excited over the synergy that exists between the military and other security agencies in the state.
“She said General Aminu has truly been very supportive of NDLEA operations, which has led to significant successes achieved by the agency.
“Odili said this was not the first time such a large quantity of Cannabis sativa was intercepted by the military and handed over to the agency.
“She further stated that with the support of the military, NDLEA was able to break boundaries, burst drug syndicates, and achieve holistic outcomes in their overall drug-fighting efforts,” the statement partly read.
