EPL: I’m surprised – Pep Gaurdiola on latest criticism by ex-players

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has expressed his astonishment at the criticism directed by former players towards current players.

Guardiola noted his surprise at such critiques originating from individuals who have previously played the game, contrasting with the more expected criticisms from journalists.

His reaction stemmed from recent comments made by former Manchester United captain Roy Keane, who criticized Erling Haaland’s performance.

Despite Haaland’s impressive track record of 36 goals in the Premier League last season, Keane remarked on the Norwegian’s lacklustre impact during City’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal on Sunday, suggesting that his overall performance did not meet Premier League standards.

“I’m surprised when it comes from former players,” the former Barcelona boss told the press.

“Journalists I understand but former players, I’m surprised.

“It’s like former referees criticizing referees… memory disappears quick”.
