Bandits have abducted no fewer than thirty children from Kasai Village in the Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State, occurring in the early hours of Monday.
Batsari has gained notoriety as a hotspot for banditry and criminal activities, with a worrying surge in such occurrences posing a significant security threat.
A local resident, speaking to Channels Television, recounted how the children, who had ventured to the outskirts of the village to gather firewood for their families, fell prey to the abductors.
Confirming the incident, the resident stated, “Yes, the attack occurred yesterday, Monday, April 1, 2024, in the morning hours. It all began when the children numbering up to thirty went behind the Kasai Village to secure firewood, which their parents would use to cook food for them.”
“Unfortunately, some suspected bandits intercepted them and took them to an unknown destination,” the resident detailed further.
The motives behind the kidnapping remain shrouded in uncertainty, and the perpetrators have yet to establish contact with the families of the abducted children to make any demands.
