EPL: Ten Hag falls out with another Manchester United star

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, experienced a strained relationship with defender Raphael Varane after an open and direct exchange between them. This disagreement occurred following Ten Hag’s choice to exclude the former Real Madrid star from the Manchester derby.

Despite Lisandro Martinez’s injury this season, Varane lost his regular starting position under Ten Hag, who favored Jonny Evans instead.

Varane, anticipating a start in the Manchester derby, found himself on the bench, replaced by Evans. This decision greatly upset the former France international, and he expressed his frustration in a discussion with Ten Hag, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Since the derby, Varane has only made three substitute appearances, despite Evans suffering from an injury. Consequently, rumors have linked the 30-year-old defender with a potential transfer move to Bayern Munich in the upcoming January window.

Varane’s arrival at Manchester United from Real Madrid in 2021 was highly anticipated. However, tensions have arisen, mirroring Ten Hag’s fallout with Jadon Sancho, who seems poised to depart the club next year.
