The Anambra State Police Command has issued a stern warning of a comprehensive crackdown on both cultists and their backers due to the persistent killings occurring in and around Awka, the state capital. CP Aderemi Adeoye, the State’s Commissioner of Police, conveyed this message through a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Friday.
Labelling the cultists as “murderers,” Adeoye asserted that their presence is unsuitable in a society of decent individuals. He cautioned that when the clampdown takes effect, no one should reach out to the command for assistance.
The Awka region has witnessed consistent clashes between rival cult factions, leading to concerns about public safety. In a recent incident at Eke Awka market, a member of a rival group was brutally murdered, and his decapitated head was found.
The commissioner condemned those who support the killing activities of cultists, branding them as cowards who should feel ashamed. He made a resolute pledge that the Police Command would respond forcefully against these “heartless” cultists who derive pleasure from taking lives. Additionally, he warned that individuals should refrain from contacting him for the release of any apprehended cult members during the clampdown if they wish to avoid disgrace.
“The Commissioner has ordered an all-out operation against cultists and their sponsors in the state.
“He assured the good people of Anambra State that their peace and tranquility that was punctured by the recent cult-related killings in the capital will soon be restored.
“He solicited the cooperation of all law-abiding citizens in ridding the society off the menace of cultism,” the statement added.
