Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has arrived at the Federal High Court in Lagos where he will be on trial for allegedly possessing a firearm.
Emefiele arrived at the court around 9:30 am but his legal counsels had been on the ground before his arrival.
He will go on trial on a two-count charge that claims he was in possession of a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) on June 15 without a permit.
The Federal Government, which is bringing charges against the man, insisted that the offense violated Section 4 of the Firearms Act of 2004 and was penalized by Section 27 (1b) of the same Act.
In the second count, the suspended CBN Governor was accused of having in his possession 123 rounds of live ammunition (Cartridges) without a licence, which was contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act 2004 and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act.
