Erstwhile first Vice-Chairman, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Barrister Seyi Ajnwunmi has debunked rumours making the rounds that he deliberately resigned from Lagos State FA to pave way for his ambition of taking up the vacant chairmanship post at Remo Stars FC, iwitnesslive.com can report.
Fielding questions from reporters on Monday, Akinwunmi stated in clear terms that his 12-year tenure as chairman of Lagos Football Association ended in January this year, but had to stay back for three extra-months to oversee the state FA Cup.
“I don’t need to resign from the Lagos FA to get to that position. I have e better chance of getting to that position as a member of NFF Congress.
“Of course, I am eminently qualified having gone through all the administrative strata of football. But that is not my aspiration. I am not planning for it or any other position,” he said.
Should he eventually become chairman of Remo Stars FC, the position would put him up for the chairmanship of Interim Management Committee of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).
Besides, the chairperson of the IMC convention is the holder of the NFF vice president position.
