A British man in his 60s has admitted drugging and raping his wife over a period of about 20 years in what police described as a “horrific” campaign of sexual abuse.
The man, from Stockport, whose identity has been withheld to protect his wife’s anonymity, pleaded guilty to a further 45 charges, bringing the total number of offences he has admitted to 60.
According to Greater Manchester Police, the case also involves 13 other men who have been charged in connection with the alleged abuse of the woman.
Nine of the men face charges relating to rape and sexual assault, while another has already pleaded guilty to conspiring to rape and drug the woman.
The husband has admitted offences including rape, sexual assault, assault by penetration, administering a substance with intent and sharing intimate images or videos.
Police said the investigation remains complex and that specialist support is being provided to the victim.
The case has drawn comparisons with that of Frenchwoman Gisèle Pelicot, whose former husband, Dominique Pelicot, was convicted in 2024 after drugging her and arranging for other men to rape her.
The Stockport man has not yet been sentenced.
Prosecutors said his sentencing may not take place until proceedings involving the other men accused in the case have been concluded.
The allegations against the other defendants remain subject to court proceedings.
