“I was given a 50/50 chance of survival” – Actress Sikiratu Sindodo recounts battle with illness, coma

Nollywood actress Sikiratu Sindodo has opened up about a difficult health battle that left her in a coma for months and at one point gave her doctors little hope of survival.
The actress shared her experience during an interview with Oyinmomo TV, recalling how what initially appeared to be malaria and typhoid gradually became more serious.
According to her, she was moved from one hospital to another as her condition deteriorated.
She said the illness lasted for months and eventually left her in a coma, while doctors reportedly told her mother that she had only a 50/50 chance of surviving.
“I was sick like someone who had malaria. Malaria/typhoid, that was it, and that was how it started gradually. From one General Hospital to another. I can’t remember how long it lasted. I think it lasted for months because I was in a coma and was given a 50/50 chance. My mum was even told to go home.”
Reflecting on the ordeal, Sindodo said she did not want to become emotional but expressed gratitude to God for seeing her through the difficult period.
“God answered a lot of prayers in my life. God has been faithful because I don’t want to be emotional.”
The actress also addressed reports surrounding her relationship with MC Oluomo, admitting that the attention and speculation surrounding them became overwhelming.
“The noise was too much. I didn’t know the noise would be that much.”
Sindodo has previously spoken about her gratitude for life while celebrating her birthdays.
During her 49th birthday celebration in February, the actress said she would not allow her age to define how she lived her life.
In 2023, while celebrating her 47th birthday, she expressed gratitude to God for keeping her alive, describing the occasion as one worth celebrating and expressing hope that she would live to witness another birthday.
A year earlier, during her 46th birthday celebration, the Yoruba actress opened up about some of her personality traits, describing herself as a great lover who could be “secretly wild and crazy” and “the sweetest” when treated well.
Her friends and colleagues also surprised her with a birthday celebration that year. Sindodo reportedly became emotional at the show of love and nearly left the event before her friends persuaded her to stay.
Meanwhile, filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has previously recalled the roles Sindodo and Iyabo Ojo played during the early stages of her career.
Akindele recounted how Sindodo would lend her clothes to help her appear classy and presentable on movie sets, while Iyabo Ojo stood by her and helped create opportunities for her in the industry.
She said the support she received from both actresses contributed to helping her gain recognition during her humble beginnings.
