Former Atiku Abubakar campaign spokesman, Segun Showunmi, has fired back at Reno Omokri for claiming he hired him during the 2019 elections.
The drama began after Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, appeared on a popular podcast where he claimed to have picked Showunmi, interviewed him, and even set his salary for the role of media spokesperson to Atiku.
“I didn’t take the job, but I hired Segun Showunmi for Atiku. I interviewed him and fixed his pay,” Omokri said during the podcast.
But Showunmi wasn’t having it.
In a strongly worded post on social media, he dismissed the claim as false, calling it “rubbish” and accusing Omokri of seeking attention. He said the idea that Omokri hired him is simply not true.
“I first met him at a London event. He didn’t hire me. He should stop talking nonsense,” Showunmi replied.
He went on to explain that it was actually a mutual contact who introduced him to Atiku and that any claims made by Omokri are twisted versions of what really happened.
The exchange quickly grabbed public attention, with many online users weighing in on who is telling the truth.
Adding fuel to the fire, Olisa Metuh, a former PDP spokesman, admitted recommending Showunmi for the role but didn’t confirm that Omokri handled his appointment.
So far, Showunmi stands by his version of events, maintaining that his role in the campaign came through proper party channels, not through Reno Omokri.
The back-and-forth has added more tension to the already heated political space, as PDP insiders and supporters debate the real story behind the scenes of Atiku’s 2019 campaign.
