Gas Explosion Rocks Ijora-Badia, Lagos Injures 15, Including Children

A gas explosion in Ijora-Badia, Lagos State, on Sunday afternoon left 15 individuals, including children, injured. The incident occurred at approximately 4:20 pm on Amosu Street, within the Apapa Iganmu LCDA.

The explosion was triggered by a leaking 25kg gas cylinder in a small shop, which ignited when exposed to nearby naked flames. The blast caused a fire that quickly spread to five additional gas cylinders and engulfed the entire building, which housed a 15-room studio apartment and seven shops.
Firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded swiftly, managing to contain the fire and evacuate the cylinders to prevent further escalation. Fortunately, there were no fatalities reported, and the fire was successfully extinguished.
Margaret Adeseye, the agency’s Director, confirmed that the explosion was caused by mishandling of the gas cylinder. She stated that the leaking cylinder attracted a nearby flame, leading to the explosion.
Adeseye further assured that none of the 15 injured persons, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, were in life-threatening conditions. She added that some victims had received first aid on the spot, while others were transported to the hospital for treatment.
