Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday inaugurated the national headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Abuja, as the group intensified its mobilisation for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
Mrs Tinubu, who inaugurated the facility, urged members of the movement to deepen grassroots engagement, communicate the policies and achievements of the administration and mobilise support across communities nationwide.
She described door-to-door campaigning as an important platform for engaging citizens, listening to their concerns and explaining the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to her, the headquarters would serve as a coordination centre for developing campaign strategies and disseminating the administration’s message of shared prosperity to households across the country.
The First Lady commended the movement’s convener and grand patron, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, and other members for their commitment to grassroots mobilisation.
She, however, charged campaigners to engage Nigerians peacefully and respectfully, irrespective of their political affiliations, stressing that every citizen deserved to be heard and valued.
Mrs Tinubu said the movement must communicate messages of hope, peace, unity and development while explaining the government’s economic reforms and emerging opportunities, particularly for young Nigerians.
She expressed optimism about the opportunities arising from developments in artificial intelligence, robotics and electric vehicles, urging campaigners to highlight these areas as evidence of changes taking place in the country.
“Things are happening. Jobs are coming in. Investors are also coming in, in droves,” she said.
Also speaking, President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, described the movement as a platform for strengthening grassroots engagement, promoting national unity and mobilising support for the President’s second term.
Akpabio commended Tompolo and the movement’s national coordinator, Comrade Sunday Asuku, for establishing a campaign structure focused on promoting the administration’s policies.
He disclosed that the movement had visited 14 states and was conducting door-to-door campaigns in states including Sokoto and Borno.
The Senate President urged members to use the exercise not merely to solicit votes but also to listen to citizens, understand their challenges and explain the government’s policies.
“When you go from door to door, do not merely seek political support. Carry a message of the hope of the Renewed Hope of this President to them,” he said.
Akpabio also defended the administration’s economic reforms, including the removal of petrol subsidy, efforts to stabilise the currency and tax reforms, arguing that the measures were designed to reposition the economy for long-term growth.
He further urged members to ensure that political mobilisation did not deepen ethnic, religious or political divisions.
“Our diversity must never become our division. Our difficulties must never destroy our determination. And our politics must never become greater than our patriotism,” he said.
In his goodwill message, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, commended Tompolo for establishing the movement.
Tompolo, in his remarks, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to mobilising support for President Tinubu’s re-election, saying its campaign had already reached 14 states, with plans to extend its activities to the remaining states and the Federal Capital Territory.
He argued that the President deserved a second term, citing what he described as difficult decisions taken to reposition the economy and improve governance.
Speaking through the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, Chief Kestin Pondi, the grand patron described the inauguration of the Abuja headquarters by the First Lady as a defining moment for the movement.
“This is more than the opening of an office. It is the opening of a new front in the effort to carry the message of Renewed Hope to every Nigerian,” he said.
Pondi said the movement intended to reach households, wards, communities, markets and places of worship to mobilise support for Tinubu and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) nationwide.
He added that members had been engaging communities and explaining why the President, whom he described as a leader of courage and patriotism, should be given another term.
In separate goodwill messages, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa expressed support for the movement and pledged to work towards Tinubu’s re-election.
The inauguration marks another step in the movement’s campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general election.
