2027: Hamzat Urges Lagosians to Convert Voter Registration into Votes for Tinubu

Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has urged Lagosians to translate the state’s large voter population into actual votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Hamzat made the appeal on Monday while commissioning the PBAT/KOH Lagos Central Campaign Office on Harden Street, Lagos Island, where he called for increased grassroots mobilisation and greater voter participation.

He said the number of registered voters in Lagos made the state strategically important to the electoral fortunes of the APC, stressing that the party must intensify efforts to persuade eligible voters to turn out on election day.

According to him, voter registration figures alone would not guarantee electoral success unless residents participated actively in the voting process.

“We are commissioning this office today to take our campaign to the grassroots. We know Lagos Island has been doing really well in voting, but that is not enough, as many people still do not vote,” he said.

Hamzat urged residents to support Tinubu’s re-election, citing the President’s longstanding political connection with Lagos and the need for continuity in his administration’s programmes.

“We are here to mobilise residents to come out and vote for our President because he is one of us. We must demonstrate our support by voting for his re-election so that he can continue the good work he has started,” the deputy governor said.

He specifically appealed to voters in the
Lagos Central Senatorial District to support all APC candidates, urging party members to encourage others to participate in the elections.

Citing Osun State as an example, Hamzat referred to a reported voter turnout of about 54 per cent in its last election to illustrate the challenge of converting registered voters into actual votes.

“My charge to you is that, as you are all seated here today, on Election Day, make sure you take someone along to the polling unit to vote for Asiwaju,” he said.

The senator representing Lagos Central, Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, described the commissioning of the campaign office as a significant milestone for the party, saying it symbolised unity and a determination to consolidate its political position.

He urged party members to remain united despite their differences, maintain discipline and strengthen engagement with residents across communities, markets and households.

Also speaking, the Lagos State APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, said the office would provide a platform for closer coordination between the senatorial district and the party’s state leadership.

Ojelabi urged party members to communicate the policies and achievements of Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to residents at the grassroots.

He also encouraged eligible party members who had yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards to do so promptly, while calling for peaceful campaigns and issue-based engagement ahead of the elections.

In his remarks, the Director-General of the PBAT-KOH Lagos Campaign Organisation, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, said the office underscored Lagos Central’s political significance and the APC’s determination to strengthen its structures across the district.

Obanikoro urged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid and the electoral aspirations of other APC candidates in 2027.
