An Osun State High Court has ordered the remand of two brothers at the Ilesa Correctional Centre over alleged sexual offences against an eight-year-old girl in Osogbo.
The defendants, identified as Abiodun Atoyebi, 29, and Sodiq Atoyebi, 33, were arraigned before Justice Yinka Aderibigbe on an eight-count charge relating to alleged rape and unlawful sexual intercourse.
The charges, according to the prosecution, arose from incidents allegedly committed between 2022 and 2024 at locations around Temidire Estate and the Capital Hotel area of Osogbo.
State counsel, Labo Popoola, told the court that the defendants allegedly assaulted the minor in separate incidents, while the charges outlined the specific allegations against each of them.
The prosecution maintained that the alleged offences contravened the Child Rights Law of Osun State, 2007, relevant provisions of the Criminal Code and the Osun State Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law.
The court clerk read the charges to the defendants, who each entered a plea of not guilty.
Following their pleas, Justice Aderibigbe ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre.
The court adjourned the matter until December 1 for hearing.
The case is expected to proceed with the presentation of evidence by the parties, while the defendants remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
