BREAKING: 32 on board as military aircraft crashes in Ondo

A Nigerian military aircraft carrying 32 people has crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The aircraft, identified as an ATR-42, reportedly lost radar contact around 9am on Monday while on a routine flight from Benin to Lagos.

Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, said the aircraft had 25 passengers and seven crew members on board, while search and rescue operations were ongoing. No official casualty figure had been released as of press time.

The Nigerian Air Force also confirmed ownership of the aircraft and said it had activated search and rescue operations in collaboration with relevant authorities.

The crash occurred in a swampy area around Igbokoda, making access difficult for residents and emergency responders.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, with its spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, saying details were still emerging.

“The Command urges members of the public, particularly residents of Igbokoda and adjoining communities, to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information,” he said.

The cause of the crash was yet to be established as rescue efforts continued.
