There was panic on Monday night as suspected bandits stormed Bagodo village, behind the popular Jaruwa community along New Road, also known as Yakowa Way, on the outskirts of Kaduna city.
The armed invasion, which occurred between Monday and Tuesday night, was said to have targeted a particular resident who was reportedly not at home at the time of the attack.
Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the gunmen shot sporadically into the air on arrival and pulled down fences of some buildings in an attempt to abduct its residents.
According to locals, an attempt to abduct a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), who resides in the area was met with stiff resistance, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
Sources said some residents, whose identities were yet to be ascertained, were however allegedly abducted from their homes and taken away by the gunmen.
The attack has triggered an exodus from the community, as many residents have fled to neighbouring communities for fear of another attack,, and searching for rented houses.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity and contacted our correspondent while searching for a rented apartment in Ungwan Boro for his relatives, said some fleeing residents have relocated to Barnawa to squat with family members.
“My relation managed to build his personal house there, but is now afraid to stay there with his wife and two kids for fear of bandits’ invasion,” he said, alleging that such attacks occur almost weekly and monthly basis in the area now.
Contacted, the state police Command spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan could not respond before press time Tuesday.
