Bauchi State Government has commenced discussions with Arewa Investment and Management Limited on the establishment of charging stations for electric tricycles as part of efforts to modernise transportation and create new economic opportunities in the state.
The Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammad Auwal Jatau, disclosed this on Thursday when he held a meeting with representatives of the firm at the Government House, Bauchi.
Jatau directed relevant government agencies to collaborate with the company to develop modalities for the effective implementation of the project.
He said the initiative was designed to expand economic opportunities, create jobs and position Bauchi as a regional hub for modern Keke Napep operations.
According to him, the state government and the firm have developed plans to establish charging infrastructure to support electric motorcycles and other new-energy vehicles.
The Deputy Governor said the former Steyr Automotive Assembly Plant would be utilised as part of the initiative.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to reviving dormant industrial assets and attracting productive investments capable of contributing to poverty reduction and economic development.
He added that the administration of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed remained open to credible and viable investments that aligned with its development priorities.
The Managing Director of Arewa Investment and Management Limited, Kabiru Umar, said the company was committed to providing the necessary support, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the state government, to ensure the successful establishment and distribution of the electric tricycles.
