The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, for improved roads linking tertiary institutions in Kaduna and Kano states, saying the development has eased students’ movement and reduced transportation challenges.
The commendation came as NANS commenced a nationwide tour of federal road projects leading to higher institutions, beginning with the Federal Co-operative College, Kaduna, along the Kaduna-Abuja Road.
The association inspected the ongoing Federal Government road project passing through the college, which serves as a major access route for students and other members of the academic community.
The delegation later proceeded to Kano State, where it assessed the Kaduna-Kano Road, including the section passing through Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education.
NANS said the road was in good condition and had improved commuting for students of the institution.
Speaking during the exercise, NANS President, Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, stressed the need for students to take an active interest in government policies and projects affecting them.
“As students, we are directly affected by government policies and must remain actively involved in policy formulation and government projects, especially those that affect us,” he said.
Students of Sa’adatu Rimi College and members of its Students’ Union also commended Tinubu and Umahi, saying the improved road had eased movement and reduced transportation difficulties.
The NANS delegation also met with the college management on student welfare and commended the Provost, Dr. Kabiru Ahmed Gwarzo, for what it described as a student-friendly administration committed to their wellbeing.
The association said it would extend the road tour to other parts of the country to assess projects affecting students, identify challenges and make recommendations to relevant authorities.
NANS said it would compile its findings into an official report for presentation at the conclusion of the exercise.
