The Enugu State Ministry of Education has congratulated Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah on the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Laws degree (honoris causa) on him by the University of East London, United Kingdom.
The ministry, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze L. Mbah, described the honour as a recognition of the governor’s contributions to intellectual development, enterprise, public service and transformational leadership.
The ministry, alongside the Centre for Experiential Learning and Innovation (CELI), said the award by Mbah’s alma mater affirmed his longstanding belief in the transformative power of education and the need to expand opportunities for future generations.
According to the statement, the governor’s commitment to education was reflected in the allocation of 33 per cent of the state’s annual budget to the sector, as well as the establishment of Smart Green Schools and investments in experiential learning, digital skills and innovation.
It said these initiatives were translating Mbah’s vision for education into what it described as a lasting legacy for children and young people across the state.
The ministry also highlighted one of the governor’s declarations, “I have never accepted the limits of my inherited circumstances,” saying it captured the vision behind the ongoing transformation in Enugu State.
It said the statement should serve as an inspiration to teachers, learners and young people to reject limitations imposed by their circumstances and embrace opportunities to shape their futures.
The ministry described the honorary doctorate as a recognition of a leadership philosophy that places education, vision and public service at the centre of societal transformation.
“We celebrate a Governor whose leadership demonstrates that education, animated by vision and service, can transform individuals, institutions and society,” the statement said.
The ministry congratulated Mbah on the conferment of the honorary degree, formally recognising him as Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Doctor of Laws (honoris causa).
“The Tomorrow That Is Here celebrates you,” the statement added.
