The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has reportedly stepped up its presence and operations in Nigeria as part of efforts to tackle fraud and other crimes targeting victims in the United States.
The development has sparked reactions online after an X user, @MasterBolaji, warned Nigerians involved in online scams that they could no longer hide in the country while allegedly defrauding people abroad.
In the post, the user addressed individuals popularly known in Nigeria as “Yahoo Boy.”
He wrote: “To all Yahoo boys, take note: The FBI now has an official presence in Nigeria. If you defraud a US citizen while living in Nigeria, the FBI and Nigerian Police will work together to arrest and extradite you to the US. You can’t hide in Nigeria for fraud anymore. It’s over!”
The post has drawn attention amid recent cases involving Nigerian suspects who were arrested in Nigeria and later extradited to the United States to face criminal charges.
Recent developments show that US authorities are working closely with Nigerian security agencies in investigations involving alleged crimes committed from Nigeria against victims in the United States.
