The National Population Commission (NPC) has announced the death of its Chairman, Dr. Aminu Yusuf.
Dr. Yusuf who was sworn in as NPC Chairman by President Bola Tinubu on December 3, 2025, reportedly died in Abuja on Friday, August 28, after a brief illness. He was aged 66.
The NPC in a statement by Mrs. Adelayo Serifat Olurode, Director, Public Affairs Department, said Dr. Yusuf who was the 8th substantive Chairman of the commission, “provided visionary leadership, championing a Seven-Point Agenda aimed at repositioning the commission.”
Born on April, 15, 1960 in Wushishi, Niger State, Dr. Yusuf brought to the NPC, a distinguished record of public service spanning education, governance, grassroots politics, and community development.
He previously served as Chairman of Wushishi Local Government Area, member-elect of the Niger State House of Assembly, Board Member of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and Special Adviser (Political Affairs) to the Governor of Niger State, among several other notable positions.
Until his appointment Dr. Yusuf, he was the National President of the Niger State College of Education Alumni Association, Minna, and Co-Chairman of the Senator Abubakar Sani Bello Skill Acquisition and Development Committee.
