The Nasarawa State Police Command has said it has perfected arrangement to commence Operation Show of Force ahead of August 19 commencement of political campaign across the state.
In a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nasarawa State Police Command, SP Ranham Nansel on Sunday, said the operation which would be carried out in Collaboration with sister security agencies in the state, was designed to reassure members of the public of the preparedness and capability of the security agencies to provide adequate security, safeguard lives and property, and maintain law and order.
He explained that the operation also aims at demonstrating the readiness of the security agencies ahead of the forthcoming political campaigns scheduled to commence nationwide on Wednesday, 19th August 2026.
According to him, the show of force woud begin in Lafia for the Southern Senatorial District, and subsequently proceed to the Northern Senatorial District, covering Nasarawa Eggon, Wamba and Akwanga Local Government Areas, and move to Western Senatorial District, covering Keffi, Karu and Nasarawa Local Government Areas, and would continue across the various parts of the State.
The statement said the operation would involve the deployment of heavy security personnel to entry and exit routes into the State, strategic locations and other critical areas, with intensive stop-and-search operations as part of efforts to detect and prevent the movement of criminal elements, weapons and other prohibited items.
Part of the statement reads” The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed emphasises that the exercise was not targeted at any individual, group, political party or organisation, noted that it was a proactive security measure designed solely to safeguard lives and property, maintain public order, and ensure a peaceful and secure environment for residents and visitors to the State.
“The CP therefore urges members of the public to remain calm, go about their lawful businesses without fear, and cooperate with security personnel during the exercise.
“The Commissioner further assures residents that the heavy presence of security operatives, particularly within Lafia and other strategic locations, is intended to reassure the public and enhance security, and should not be misconstrued as a cause for alarm.
“Members of the public are equally advised to cooperate with security personnel during stop-and-search operations and promptly report any suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station or security agency.
“The Nasarawa State Police Command, in conjunction with sister security agencies, remains firmly committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors” the statement added.
