Former President Goodluck Jonathan has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction and modernization of four recreational parks in Bauchi State valued at N4.68 billion.
The ceremony, held at the Golden Jubilee Park in Bauchi metropolis, marked the commencement of a major urban renewal project aimed at transforming the state’s recreational spaces into modern, functional and environmentally friendly facilities.
The parks covered by the project are the Golden Jubilee Park, General Hassan Usman Katsina Park, Shehu Adamu Park and Suleiman Adamu Park.
Speaking during the ceremony, Jonathan said the development of recreational facilities was important to improving the quality of life of residents, promoting healthy living and strengthening social interaction.
He said properly developed parks could also support tourism and stimulate economic activities by attracting residents, visitors and businesses to surrounding areas.
Governor Bala Mohammed said the project was part of his administration’s broader urban development programme aimed at expanding green spaces and recreational facilities across the state.
He recalled that the Golden Jubilee Park was established during activities marking Bauchi State’s 50th anniversary, when 50 trees were planted at the site as a symbol of the state’s development and commitment to environmental sustainability.
The governor also announced the creation of a Parks and Recreation Department under the Ministry of Housing and Environment to oversee the management, development and sustainability of recreational facilities across Bauchi.
The four parks, upon completion, are expected to provide improved spaces for relaxation, family activities, fitness and recreation, while enhancing the aesthetics and tourism appeal of Bauchi metropolis.
