Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has condemned the vandalism of the Festac-Alakija Bridge, directing security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack on the critical infrastructure.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, August 7, 2026.
According to Omotoso, the Governor described the incident as “horrendous, shameful and condemnable,” stressing that Lagos would not tolerate acts of vandalism against public infrastructure.
“Lagos will not tolerate any act of vandalism because it is barbaric and criminal,” Sanwo-Olu was quoted as saying.
The Governor said he had been briefed by officials of the Office of Infrastructure who inspected the bridge following the incident.
He, however, assured residents that the structural integrity of the bridge remained intact, adding that remedial works would be carried out immediately to protect the bridge’s columns.
“Anyone who is found to be culpable in this horrendous, shameful and condemnable incident will surely face the law,” the Governor warned.
Sanwo-Olu urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around public infrastructure, stressing that government facilities must be collectively protected against vandalism and other criminal attacks.
He reiterated that Lagos had no place for what he described as “barbarism and acts of violence” against critical infrastructure and other public facilities.
