The governorship hopeful of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, Engineer Omar Suleiman, has awarded a university scholarship to the overall best graduating female student of Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Hong Local Government Area.
Engineer Omar Suleiman popularly called “Omarana”, an alumnus of the college announced the scholarship during the school’s 55th Graduation and Prize-Giving Ceremony, where he served as the chairman of the occasion.
The Adamawa State ADC standard-bearer, who graduated from GSSS Hong as the Overall Best Student of the school’s eighth set with a Division One result nearly five decades ago, described his return as a homecoming to an institution that played a critical role in shaping his academic and leadership journey.
Addressing graduating students, Engineer Suleiman urged them to remain disciplined, resilient and committed to excellence, stressing that education remains the foundation for personal growth and national development.
The highlight of the ceremony was the announcement of a full undergraduate scholarship for Miss Gloria Dujima, who emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Female Student for the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to him, the scholarship is intended to ensure that financial challenges do not stand in the way of the student’s aspiration to pursue higher education acquire education.
He emphasized that the “sustainable development begins with investment in education and human capital, adding that governments must prioritise schools and create opportunities for young people to realise their full potential”.
“Every child, irrespective of social or economic background, deserves access to quality education capable of transforming lives and communities”, he stressed.
While paying a courtesy visit to the Tol Hoba, His Royal Majesty Barrister Alheri Bulus, he reaffirmed his respect for traditional institutions and acknowledged their role in promoting peace, unity and community development.
The governorship candidate also received enthusiastic receptions from youth groups in Song and Gombi Local Government Areas, who expressed support for his leadership aspirations and development agenda.
He later paid a condolence visit as part of his engagements, to the family of Alhaji Iliyasu Chahimi over the death of his son.
The ceremony however attracted traditional rulers, government officials, education stakeholders, alumni, parents and community leaders who gathered to celebrate the school’s 55 years of fulfillment.
