The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced preparations for the 2027 general elections in Bauchi State with the display of the preliminary voter register and the confirmation that 19 political parties will participate in the polls.
The Head of Voter Education and Publicity, INEC Bauchi State, Aliyu Shaba, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Monday.
He said the preliminary voter register would be displayed from Tuesday in all the 20 local government area offices of the Commission for verification by persons who registered between May 3 and July 26, 2026.
According to him, registrants are expected to check the register for errors such as misspelt names, incorrect dates of birth, wrong addresses, underage registration or the inclusion of non-Nigerian citizens, and submit claims or objections using Form EC3.
Shaba also announced that only 19 political parties have successfully presented candidates eligible to participate in the 2027 general elections. They are AA, AAC, ADC, ADP, APC, APM, APP, BP, DLA, LP, NDC, NDP, NNPP, NRM, PDP, PRP, SDP, YPD and ZLP.
He explained that the Commission had published the names and particulars of presidential, Senate and House of Representatives candidates in line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, while the list of governorship and State House of Assembly candidates would be published later.
He urged members of the public to ignore false reports suggesting that some candidates had been removed from the published list, stressing that INEC has no power to delist duly nominated candidates outside the provisions of the law.
Shaba added that the Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State House of Assembly elections will be held on February 9, 2027.
