APC Group Backs Al-Makura for DG of Presidential Campaign Council

The APC Integrity Group has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to appoint former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Umar Al-Makura, as Director-General of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

The group said Al-Makura possesses the experience, loyalty, integrity and leadership qualities required to coordinate a successful presidential campaign for the ruling party.

In a statement jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Ibrahim Mamman, and National Secretary, Goodluck Okafor, the group said it had carefully assessed the various personalities being considered for the strategic position and concluded that Al-Makura stands out as the most suitable candidate.

According to the group, while several distinguished APC leaders have indicated interest in the position and possess the credentials to serve, the party requires a campaign manager with proven capacity, broad national appeal and a political record devoid of divisive controversies.

The APC Integrity Group described Al-Makura as one of the founding fathers of the progressive movement whose political career has been marked by discipline, humility, integrity and dedication to public service.

It noted that the former governor played a significant role in the growth and consolidation of the APC, particularly in the North-Central region and across the country, adding that he has remained steadfast in his commitment to the ideals of the party.

The group further stated that as the APC prepares for another crucial electoral contest, the party needs a leader capable of uniting all interests within its fold, coordinating stakeholders effectively and inspiring confidence among members and supporters.

“Senator Al-Makura possesses these qualities in abundance. His reputation as a bridge-builder and a leader without political baggage makes him a compelling choice for the position,” the statement said.

It added that the former senator enjoys widespread respect among party leaders, governors, lawmakers, youth groups, women organisations and grassroots supporters, stressing that his experience in governance, legislation, party administration and national politics places him in a strong position to lead the APC’s presidential campaign machinery.

The group therefore urged the APC leadership and relevant stakeholders to give serious consideration to Al-Makura’s appointment, expressing confidence that such a decision would strengthen party cohesion, energise the campaign structure and boost the party’s chances of securing victory in the 2027 presidential election.

As a group committed to the unity, stability, and electoral success of our great party, we maintained that merit, loyalty, competence and integrity should remain the guiding principles in selecting those who will lead the party’s campaign structure, insisting that Al-Makura embodies the qualities needed to deliver a successful and issue-driven campaign.
