The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the alleged killing of a 30-year-old woman over accusations of witchcraft in Garin Malam Village, Gamawa Local Government Area.
Police said the incident occurred in the early hours of July 28 when the suspect, Garba Daudu, allegedly conspired with two others, identified as Ya’u Garba and Musa, who are currently on the run, to invade the residence of Audu Sabo.
According to the Command, the attackers allegedly assaulted Audu Sabo, his two sons aged 12 and 14, and macheted his wife, Habse Ubale, after accusing her of being a witch.
The victims were rushed to General Hospital, Gamawa, where Habse was confirmed dead, while one victim remains on admission and the others have been treated and discharged.
Police said one suspect has been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident, warning against jungle justice and violence based on superstition, and assured the public that all those involved would face justice.
